Description:
This Soviet memorandum provides a description of the relations between India and the Soviet Union, Indo-Chinese relations and India's domestic politics. It examines the Indian National Congress and its leader Jawaharlal Nehru, commenting on its structure, domestic and foreign policies and its objectives. Furthermore, the paper looks at the state of Indo-Soviet relations in its various dimensions, including trade, and does the same for India-China relations. The paper points to the positive state of Indo-Chinese relations following India's early diplomatic recognition of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, a 1954 trade agreement and high-level state visits in the same year.
